A Warm Welcome To Our New CEO, Gary St. Amand

The Spirit North team gathered in Canmore, AB to welcome Gary to the family.

A message from our board of directors

Embarking upon an exciting new chapter for Spirit North, we are filled with pride as we reflect on our accomplishments under the visionary leadership of Beckie Scott. Over the past seven years, Beckie has steered this organization from a spark of inspiration into a transformative movement that has positively impacted the lives of thousands of Indigenous youth. Her commitment to fostering health, wellness, and empowerment through sport has left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire us all.

My journey with Spirit North continues. I have witnessed the impact of our programs in the lives of Indigenous youth and am humbled by what we have been able to achieve together, with partners who believe in what we do and why we do it.
— Beckie Scott, Founder

Looking ahead, we recognize the importance of sustainable growth to meet the increasing demand for our programs and services. This journey is about ensuring that every step we take is rooted in the long-term wellbeing of the communities we serve. Growth, while exciting, must be thoughtful and collaborative—building partnerships that share our commitment to equity and access, and that support the health and wellbeing of Indigenous youth across Canada.

So it is with great pleasure that we welcome Gary St. Amand as Spirit North’s new CEO. Gary comes to us with a wealth of experience from the Bissell Centre, where he has demonstrated a remarkable ability to inspire a shared vision and bring partners together to create meaningful, lasting change. His leadership and dedication to empowering underserved communities will help us continue the journey that Beckie started, with a clear focus on growing Spirit North in a way that is sustainable, impactful, and aligned with our core values.

I have no doubt that under Gary’s leadership, and with Beckie continuing to advocate from her position in the founder role, we will continue to strengthen our partnerships and expand our reach, working collectively to unlock the full potential of the youth and communities we serve. Together, we will build on the strong foundation that Beckie laid, ensuring that Spirit North’s mission and values remain at the heart of everything we do.

I’m inspired by Spirit North’s vision and impact. Beckie started this organization with hope and goodness. It is reconciliation in action and I am drawn to Spirit North’s evident commitment to be an ally and to reflect the spirit of treaty in co-creating possibilities.
— Gary St. Amand, Incoming CEO

We are excited for what lies ahead, and I am confident that with Gary at the helm, Spirit North’s future is bright.

Sincerely,
Larry Greer
